Le Grand Combat / The Great Fight – H. Michaux (1927)

FR

A R.-M. Hermant
Il l’emparouille et l’endosque contre terre ;
Il le rague et le roupète jusqu’à son drâle ;
Il le pratèle et le libucque et lui barufle les ouillais ;
Il le tocarde et le marmine,
Le manage rape à ri et ripe à ra.
Enfin il l’écorcobalisse.
L’autre hésite, s’espudrine, se défaisse, se torse et se ruine.
C’en sera bientôt fini de lui ;
Mégères alentour qui pleurez dans vos mouchoirs ;
On s’étonne, on s’étonne, on s’étonne
Et vous regarde,
On cherche aussi, nous autres, le Grand Secret.»

EN

To R.-M. Hermant

He embowerates and enbacks him on the ground.
He raggs him and rumpets him up to his drale;
He praggles him and libucks him and berifles his testeries;
He tricards him and morones him,
He grobels him rasp by rip and risp by rap.
Finally he enscorchorizes him.

The other hesitates, espudates himself, unbrines himself,
twisses and ruins himself.
He’ll soon be done for;
He mends and immarginates himself … but in vain
The hoop which has rolled so far falls.
Abrah! Abrah! Abrah!
The foot’s collapsed!
The arm’s broken!
The blood’s run out!
Dig, dig, dig,
In the pot of his belly there’s a big secret
You neighborhood shrews who cry into your handkerchiefs;
We’re amazed, we’re amazed, we’re amazed
And we watch you
We others, we’re looking for the Big Secret too.

Design as Art – Bruno Munari

Will something like this be the international language of the near future? In limited ways perhaps it might. In meteorology and electronics it is already used. But it has not yet been used to tell a story. Or rather, mine is the first attempt.

Reading: prehistoric digital poetry – C.T. Funkhouser

p. 14

« Poetry is always on the limits of things. On the limits of what can be said, of what can be written, of what can be seen, even of what can be thought, felt and understood. To be on the limit means often for the poet to be beyond the frontier of what we are prepared to accept as being possible. »

Reseument Jerome Fletcher screenshot

“[…] The choice of found text arose from a chance encounter with a set of titles from the first volume of Michel Leiris’s autobiography, La Règle du jeu. This is subtitled in French, Biffures, and in English, Scratches. There were obvious links here with the gestural and material nature of the technology itself. The first chapter of Leiris’s autobiography is entitled ‘…Reusement’, which I read – and subsequently realised I had misread – as an odd English neologism related to a notion of re-use or recycling. UX in a certain future

« The only controls available to those on board were two push-buttons on the centre post of the cabin – one labelled ON and one labelled OFF. The ON button simply started a flight from Mars. The OFF was connected to nothing. It was installed at the insistence of Martian mental-health experts, who said that human beings were always happier with machinery they thought they could turn off. »
